Lately I’ve felt very small in this vast world of ours yet it’s amazing that we can still recognize something familiar seeing a place we’ve once visited or call home. I wanted to explore an uplifting scene that has a story to tell.
In this oil on copper, I continue to explore lead based oil paints for their reflective qualities along with genuine lapis lazuli on a copper panel because these materials fascinate me. Just as I’m exploring materials, exploration is really behind the story of this painting. I see explorers, maybe you see tourists, maybe you see yourself in this hot air balloon and seeing a place you love from a whole new perspective.
…note that lead paints are perfectly safe, just as long as you please don’t eat the oil painting ;)
